“I’ve been active and busy for years” or “I have worked construction and heavy lifting all my life” or “I played football, wrestling, and hard sports,” are all reasons that are reported for developing arthritis, specifically osteoarthritis (OA) – arthritis of the bones effecting the joints. Arthritis breaks down the joint, cartilage, bone, and can form bone spurs (1). This ultimately leads to loss of range of motion, stiffness, pain with weight bearing mostly, and swelling (1).
Recent research by Dunning et al (2018, 2025) on the use of dry needling to help with knee pain in those with mild to moderate OA has been proven to be very effective. We are the only SHOP in town that is trained and versed in these protocols developed by the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy (AAMT). Unfortunately, the hip has not been studied to the extent of the knee for dry needling specific to hip OA.
If you live in Springfield, MO and the surrounding area, let The SHOP help evaluate and treat your OA pain. Do you want to learn more or get started with treatment?
