What makes headaches different?
In order to understand headaches, let’s discuss the most impactful type, migraines, followed by tension-type and cervicogenic.
Migraines are defined as headaches that are due to a release of chemicals in the brain and around blood vessels that cause inflammation and pain (1).

Cervicogenic Headaches are caused by neck pain, with or without an injury, or related to a strain to the neck muscles over time (1, 2). These headaches start with a dull ache in the neck of the back of the head and progress (1, 2). Often neck range of motion is limited (2).
